World of Warcraft Mythic+ Tournament

In the past, we’ve held tournaments in CS:GO, Rocket League, Dota 2, and many many more other games. But this time, let’s do something different. For those of you who play World of Warcraft, this will be an amazing opportunity to test your skills in Mythic+ Dungeon runs.

What is Mythic+?

Mythic+ is a new dungeon difficulty system in World of Warcraft. It’s based on these items called “Keystones”. Unlike Heroic and Mythic difficulties, the Mythic+ system is scaling according to your keystone. In addition, you have a set amount of time to complete the dungeon and earn more rewards. The keystones have their own “affixes” that enhance the dungeon you’re running. For example, a +5 Underrot key is more difficult than +2 Underrot.

Affixes in Mythic+ can vary from basic ones where enemies in the dungeon have more HP and deal more damage to the ones where slain enemies leave behind a toxic pool which deals damage to you and heals additional monsters that stand in it.

In addition, the faster you complete the dungeon, the more rewards you get and you further upgrade your key. For example, if you finish the dungeon in 20 minutes, rather than in 30, you will receive an additional item and your keystone will be upgraded by 3 levels, instead of 1 or 2.

The Tournament

Now that I have explained the basics of Mythic+, let’s get into the tournament details. You need a total of 5 players in your party. However, all 5 players are allowed to switch characters between matches. We will have 8 teams, and only 1 can be victorious.

Each match will be played in the same dungeon, with the same keystone level to ensure the best possible balance. You can choose your compositions and are allowed to interchange players between characters also. For example, you play a Mage, your friend plays a Priest, but you would like to play Priest in the next match. In that case, you can switch PCs with your teammate and play his character.

There will be rewards for the top 3 teams. We have prepared some amazing gaming peripherals for the winners, as well as in-game goodies such as mounts, pets and cosmetic items for everyone that participates.

If you don’t have a character

In case you’re not a regular World of Warcraft player and you don’t have the required gear or level for the tournament, don’t worry. All you need to do is visit Battleboost.com and order a service that will help you raise your item level or general level. For example, a good service that will boost your ilvl in no time is their WoW Mythic Carry. With this boost, you will be carried through the newest raid on Mythic difficulty and will receive all the rewards, including the title and the end boss mount.

Go ahead and boost your character, and we will see you at the tournament very soon! Best of luck to everyone who participates!

Yet Another Tabletop University Event

Recently, the University Gaming Network Society organized a board game event at few universities across the US. Since it was a huge success, we are looking to bring it back, but this time, we will be focusing on RPG tabletop games like Dungeons & Dragons, Shadowrun, Blades in the Dark and many more!

Let’s explain tabletop RPGs first.

What you need to know about these types of games is that they can last for hours and hours. Also known as pen-and-paper role-playing games, participants describe their characters through speech. There are a certain set of rules that must be followed, but players have the freedom to improvise, meaning that their choices shape the outcome of the game. But before you start the game, each of the players assigns themselves a role they would like to play. Characteristics and statistics are recorded on a form called “Character Sheet“. Most of the time, character’s stats are based on the class you pick, but you have the freedom to change it up a bit. That is the basic tabletop RPG model.

One of the first role-playing games was M. A. R. Barker‘s Empire of the Petal Throne, released in 1974. But the most popular tabletop RPG is, and you’ve guessed it, Dungeons & Dragons, released also in 1974. In its first year, roughly 1000 copies were sold, followed by 3000 in 1975. In 2005, products branded Dungeons & Dragons made up over 50% of the RPG tabletop products. And even today, in 2019, you can still hear about the game here and there, showing just how tabletop RPGs withstood the test of time.

Our tabletop event, what is it about?

Well, we are bringing everything to you. We have hundreds of games to show off and play with you. There will also be some cool stuff for you to buy and bring home. We’ve managed to even dig up an exclusive Dungeons & Dragons original 1974 game. One proud gamer will be able to take it home after the event ends.

You can sign up for the event at event@sotongamesoc.com. There are no requirements this time, just invite your friends to come along and let’s enjoy this unique experience. We’re looking forward to seeing you there soon!

RPG University Gaming Event

I would bet that every single gamer reading this right now has at least at some point in their life tried some type of RPG (Role-Playing Game), am I right? Think games like Elder Scrolls, The Witcher, Final Fantasy, and many more. Today, the University Gaming Network Society (that’s us!) is looking to bring an RPG gaming event to Your University!

First of all, if you’re new to Role-Playing Games, let’s talk about what an RPG is. The definition of RPG is a game in which you assume the role of a fictional character in a, most of the time, fantasy or sci-fi setting. In RPGs, you navigate this fictional world, working through the narrative and completing quests and side quests. These types of games are fun because your actions usually have consequences and you must think about your next step very carefully.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

What people like about modern Role-Playing Games is that their narrative is so rich with incredible characters, voice acting and all different types of situations you can find yourself in. Personally, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the best RPG I have ever played, no doubt at all. The game is just, simply put, a masterpiece. The story, the side quests, combat, etc, is right on point. Especially the world. But I would assume that’s due to the game being based on a book series by a Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski.

At the end of the day, all gamers enjoy a well put-together RPG. So that is why we want everyone to experience these amazing games.

The RPG Event itself, let’s talk about it.

If you’re a big fan of RPGs like myself, you will definitely enjoy what we have in store for you. You will be able to try out both new and old classic RPG games with your friends, play co-op campaigns and meet other gamers. We will also have some cool gaming peripherals for you to buy and souvenirs to bring home!

Unlike the events and tournaments we organized in the past, this will be a 2-day event. So even if you can’t be there on day one, we are making sure you don’t miss a thing!

So if you are an RPG enthusiast, don’t be hesitant to come and hang out with us. We are looking forward to seeing you there!

University Hearthstone Event

We’ve all played card games at some point, right? Poker, Blackjack, Go Fish, etc. I’m sure that at some point you’ve heard about Magic: The Gathering, it’s a quite popular card game. Well, this time, we will be playing Hearthstone at Your University.

So you might be asking “What is Hearthstone?”. It was first announced at Penny Arcade Expo in 2013 and released in 2014. This quite fun, and let’s be honest, quite addicting card game quickly caught the attention of Blizzard fans. It was something different than what we would usually expect from the creators of the most popular MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) of all time. Hearthstone is based on the fantasy World of Warcraft. WoW players all over the world were instantly interested in this new card game, and soon completely hooked.

Hearthstone: The Witchwood
Hearthstone’s latest expansion, The Witchwood

Ever since the game’s release, Blizzard has held many tournaments, including the World Championship at Blizzcon. There were hundreds of players qualifying, but only a handful made it to the championship. In 2017 prize pool for Hearthstone World Championship was a whopping 1 million USD.

Aside from the classic 1 versus 1 card game format, Hearthstone also offers some RPG-ish elements to its players. Appropriately named “Adventures”, in this game mode you can create your own, or use your classic PVP deck to play against computer-controlled “Bosses”. Don’t overestimate these Adventures, because they can be quite tricky, but also offer amazing cards as rewards for victory.

Let’s get into the good stuff, the Hearthstone event itself!

First of all, everything you need to participate is a Battle.net account, which is free to create on Blizzard‘s official website, and your own PC or a laptop. We will be holding a 1 versus 1 single-elimination tournament with 16 players, and also offering players to experience the new Adventures. There will also be enough free card packs for everyone, and exclusive Adventure giveaways.

We are looking forward to seeing you there!

Board Games University Event

Remember those times, before video games took over, when you would spend hours on end playing Monopoly, Risk, Scrabble, and many other board games? I bet we all remember that very fondly, and board games will always have a special place in our hearts. Well, today, we are looking to bring back that nostalgia to Your University.

You might think: “It’s 2019, aren’t board games already dead at this point?”. While that might be true for the most part, there is still a quite large audience that enjoys board games. Every year, hundreds of tabletop conventions are organized all over the world, in addition to tournaments, people can reveal their own board games! Large conventions are always huge, bringing in up to 200,000 people. There you can compete in gaming tournaments, play some of the newest and unreleased board games, buy cool stuff, and much more.

DnD board game

Today, when you hear the word “gaming” your first thought is “video games”, right? Well, back in the day you would think “Dungeons & Dragons“. The original RPG. Games lasting hours and hours, hanging out with your friends until you finish the campaign, eating junk food and drinking soda. Those were the good times. But we all know we can’t have that feeling again, and that’s perfectly fine.

So, is this really happening? Yes, we want to bring tabletop games to you!

Tell all your friends, and bring them along. University Gaming Society is coming to Your University with LOADS of different tabletop games. These are just some examples of what we have in store for you:

  • Board game tournaments
  • New games you’ve probably never heard of
  • You will get to meet some tabletop game designers and authors
  • Play a lot of games
  • Buy tabletop games, cards, exclusive gaming pieces, and much more
  • Meet other gamers and make friends!

We are looking forward to seeing you there, and of course, everyone is welcome!

How to make some cash by selling Runescape Gold

As a university student, most of us spend our money on books, notes, and such. What’s left is mostly spent on food, and even that is sometimes not enough. And of course, we’re all looking for ways to make more money, that’s just a fact. Well, what if I told you that you can make loads of money playing OSRS (Oldschool Runescape)? Today I’m going to talk about how to farm and sell Runescape gold for some additional income.

Sell Runescape Gold

If you’re one of those players that are very good at OSRS, and you have all the best gear and loads of gold, then this is a perfect opportunity for you. Maybe you’ve got stacks upon stacks of gold, and at this point, you have no idea what to spend it on anymore. I know that was the case when it came to my Runescape days. I also was a nearly broke university student, and barely had money to pay for my tuition. What I had left I was spending on instant noodles and soup. I was playing Runescape literally nonstop. When I wasn’t in class or studying, I was on my PC playing OSRS. The gold I made was insane. And that’s when I found out I could make real money by selling the OSRS gold I made. And I was pretty good at making gold may I add.

Well, you can also sell OSRS gold if you’re good at making it. You would have no trouble selling it and making some pretty good cash. I know I did.

When I found out about RSDGOLDMINE and their very good prices, I was instantly hooked on making gold and turning it into cash. Gone were the days of being broke all the time. And because I was very good at making gold in OSRS, I was naturally good at turning it into cash.

RSDGOLDMINE

The people over at RSDGOLDMINE are one of the best I have ever worked with, I can guarantee that. They went above and beyond to make a deal with me since I was providing such a large amount of gold on a regular basis. Honestly, RSDGOLDMINE is the only website for selling/buying OSRS gold that I can recommend. I know there are lots of these websites, but most of those are either overpriced or have bad customer support. RSDGOLDMINE has superb customer support that will answer all of your questions in no time. And their prices are the best I have ever seen, for buying and selling alike.

So if you’re a nearly broke university student like I was, and also happen to be very good at OSRS, go ahead and sell Runescape gold to make some real cash. You’ll thank me later.
