Clash Royale University Tournament

Many people say that mobile gaming is the future. Do you agree with this? Personally, I just think that the more platforms we have for gaming, the better. One of the most popular mobile games is Clash Royale. And University Network Gaming Society is here to organize the tournament for this mobile game at Your University.

But let’s talk about Clash Royale and mobile gaming in general first. Mobile gaming started getting more and more popular following the release of smartphones. Our mobile devices started getting better and better, and along with the development of this technology, naturally, mobile game popularity rose. In other words, you were actually being able to play games on your phone. Even some tournaments were organized for these games, with pretty hefty cash rewards. For example, the prize money for Clash Royale league in 2018 was $1 million.

First look at Clash Royale
Clash Royale’s Early Days

Developed and published by Supercell, Clash Royale was released on March 2nd of 2016. It combines the elements of tower defense and collectible card games. The game pits two players in a 1 versus 1 scenario, with the objective to destroy the opponent’s King’s Tower. In addition, there are 2 Princess Towers you have to destroy before reaching King’s Tower. You do so by playing cards you have previously collected from chests you receive by winning matches. There’s a mana-like system for gaining resources. In other words, you use this “elixir” to play cards, and each card has it’s elixir cost.

Let’s talk about our Clash Royale tournament

Now that you know what the game is all about, be prepared to get completely hooked. There will be multiple brackets of 16 players. The format will be a standard 1 versus 1 single elimination, but with 3 matches. The map is randomly selected anyways, so we can not control that. The winner of each bracket will receive an exclusive phone mask for their phone plus some gems to spend in the in-game store. Runner-up receives only in-game currency and few chests.

To sign up for the tournament, email us at event@sotongamesoc.com and don’t forget to include your name and your gamer tag. There are no requirements for joining, except for having a smartphone. So everyone is welcome to participate. We’re looking forward to seeing you there very soon!
